The private collection created by the Lomakov family has long turned into one of the most famous museums in Moscow. There are few places in Russia where you can see well-restored vintage equipment. That is why, day after day, Muscovites, visitors, collectors and groups of schoolchildren rush to the spacious hangar of the car museum.

How the museum was created
Any collection is born thanks to enthusiasts who enthusiastically study and collect rare and antique items. When there are a lot of exhibits, they arrange their exhibits so that as many people as possible can see them.
The Lomakovs were among the avid collectors. It all started in 1959, when the head of the family, Alexander Alekseevich, restored an old and unusual car. It was a sleek Rolls-Royce that carried Lenin, and even earlier, the brother of the Russian Tsar Mikhail Romanov.
In the museum
In 1987, the 22-year-old son of the restorer, Dmitry Alexandrovich, began collecting a private auto collection. An unusual exposition was opened for the general public in 1991. Later, the museum was allocated 1 hectare of land, and Lomakov Jr. built a special room. Today, four employees work here together with the director.
Collections
How much equipment is stored in the car museum? Approximately 130 copies. Most of them are on the go. There are 50 restored units on display for visitors. The rest are in storage or are being restored.

Among the main rarities is the Peugeot car of the beginning of the last century, abandoned in Arkhangelsk by the invaders in 1918. Another pride of the museum is the elegant "Seagull", which Leonid Brezhnev presented as a gift to the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Pimen. Until that time, the patriarch was driven in a Nissan. Seeing this, the General Secretary of the Communist Party ordered to make a personal representative "Seagull" for him.
The stylish "Horch-853" is referred to the famous cars. According to legend, it belonged to Hermann Goering, and later to Marshal Rokossovsky. Another exhibit that attracts the attention of all visitors is the Mercedes-Benz-540 K. The minister of propaganda of the Third Reich, Joseph Goebbels, drove around on it.

One of the pearls of the Lomakov collection is the Citroen-7 CV, which won the Grand Prix for participating in the Paris-Moscow rally. This car was donated to the Soviet government by France, and presented by the general designer of Citroen, François Leko. Rare vehicles include a combat copy of the ZIS-6 Katyusha, as well as the BMW-303 and BMW-328 of the 1930s. There is also a real curiosity in the hangar - the powerful ZIS-110. Stalin presented it to Patriarch Alexy I for the help that the Church provided to the Soviet state during the difficult war years.
What other car brands are in the collection? FIAT, Studebaker, Ariel, Steyer, various BMW models, pre-war GAZ-AA Polutorka, NSU, NAG, PMZ, Dodge, Aero, Adler and DKV (Das Kleine Wunder). From motorcycles you can see "Indian", "Izh" and several copies of "Harley-Davidson".

It is noteworthy that automobiles from the Lomakov collection were filmed in 120 films. The most famous of them are "We are from jazz!" and "Operation" Y "". In addition, the museum displays two Mercedes, which were the heroes of the popular Soviet TV series "Seventeen Moments of Spring".
Parts of rare cars
Time takes its toll, and not all vintage cars can be preserved intact. However, avid collectors are sure that even parts of rare equipment are of great interest. For this reason, numerous steering wheels, suspension elements, engines and body parts can be seen in the museum.
ZIS-5, years of production: 1933 - 1958 (Moscow, USSR)
What's the rarest here? One of the most unique museum exhibits is the front seat of the ZIL-115, which served the General Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee Leonid Brezhnev. The old part has a curious history. When Gorbachev took over as party leader, he was shown two powerful armored vehicles left over from the former leaders of the CPSU Central Committee.
Mikhail Sergeevich said that he did not want to drive outdated equipment and ordered new cars for himself. They did not ask him again, and two cars were immediately sent to be melted down. This decision was made despite the fact that each ZIL cost about a million dollars. To this day, only the morocco-covered seat has survived from the former luxury.

What other rarities are kept in the hangar? Dashboards and individual instruments showing speed, oil pressure, mains voltage. In a separate place, there are lamps that signal the correct operation of various systems.
Connoisseurs value German-made devices very much. Everything in them is brought to mind. If the dashboard is installed at a German company, it works properly for the entire service life of the machine. Even when the car falls apart, the instruments can be restored and brought into working order. German quality is still the benchmark!
SMZ S-3A, years of production: 1958 - 1970 (Serpukhov, USSR)
The equipment of BMW motorcycles of the post-war period looks especially cool. At one time, they had the fame of excellent technology for driving on roads with any surface, including off-road. Despite the fact that more than half a century has passed, the instruments on these motorcycles look just great!
In the history of the museum, there are cases when they tried to save rare cars, but, unfortunately, this could not be done. So in 1999, the excellent ZIL-115 car from GONA, a special-purpose garage, was brought to the ZIL plant for recycling. The head of the experimental shop could not resist and called Lomakov himself. Like, so and so - we hid the car, throwing it with rags. Write to the plant director. Perhaps he will allow not to destroy it, but to transfer it to storage.
Horch 853, 1935 (Germany)
Lomakov immediately sent a letter with a request to transfer the rare car to his museum. At first, the collector received information that the director of ZiL Nosov did not mind. But in fact it turned out that he did not allow "robbing the plant" and ordered to urgently cut the car into parts. So the possible exhibit turned into an ordinary heap of scrap metal.
Scale models of vintage cars
None of the lovers of car antiques can indifferently pass by the models that are sold in stores. Lomakov is no exception. Thanks to the collector's interest in this kind of technique, a separate exhibition has taken shape. It displays miniature models of cars of Soviet, Russian and foreign production.

Antiques, weapons and bicycles
The history of technology is the history of mankind, so many unusual things are presented in the halls of the museum. These are old telephones, radios and loudspeakers. Many come here to look at historical weapons - rifles, machine guns, machine guns, cartridges and charges from the Second World War.
Among the exhibits of old technology, the restored bicycles stand out. In the hangar, you can see models of almost all domestic factories. Mostly heavy, road bikes with curved handlebars and regular chain drives. They regularly served for transportation in spring, summer, autumn and sometimes even winter. True, there are not many bicycles. Most of them are in storage or under restoration.
